Susan Donegan was born in Dayton OH to Donald and Patricia (Freese) Donegan, the eldest of three. Inspired by her mother’s research (pre-internet) from the kitchen table, Susan first visited Ireland in 2011. This publication reflects many years of research on location in Ireland and at various genealogical repositories at home, made more difficult due to the loss of original and irreplaceable documents destroyed in the Four Courts fire of 1922 in Dublin.
This retrospective originates with the author’s third great-grandfather, Richard Irvine, who died in Decatur Township, Washington County, Ohio in 1864. He migrated to the USA in 1849 with his wife, Eliza Hay, and their children, from Killcampbell townland, Clondahorky parish, in the county of Donegal. His Irvine lineage was firmly established in the area by 1761 in the nearby townlands of Erraroeybeg and Erraroeymore in Raymunterdoney parish, with many other relatives and allied families scattered throughout the Barony of Kilmacrenan in Co. Donegal.
